Following the removal of single-word Ofsted headline judgements in 2026, children’s residential providers are being forced to rethink how they assess and recruit Registered Managers. This article explores the shift toward practice-based leadership assessment, including multi-agency working, kinship support and performance across help and protection, children in care and care leavers outcomes under the updated Children’s Social Care National Framework.
